Solas Festival 2010

Solas2010 is an entirely new and exciting venture happening in Scotland this weekend (25th-27th June) at Wiston, Biggar and includes a great line up of speakers and music. Organisers described it as:

… an independent festival, made in Scotland, with the support and co-operation of our partner organisations Greenbelt and Christian Aid Scotland.

Solas – an all-age weekend to light up the Scottish festival landscape with a vivid mix of music, debate, theatre, comedy, film and visual art – a unique location to celebrate and question our commitments to art, faith and justice within Scotland’s cultural life.

Walking Group

Some members of Cambusnethan North Church join the walks organised by a local group, spending time exploring the great outdoors (and the, at times, unpredictable weather!) in nearby places. It’s a good chance to catch up with others and get out and about. The group has provided a list of summer walks here – and if you’re interested in coming along please contact Rev. Mhorag

The next walk is expected to be on 30 June 2010, to Greenhead Moss (the Secret Pond) and will be led by Cathie.

MADE4U IN ML2

The community project MADE4U IN ML2, of which Cambusnethan North is a partner church, has recently updated their website with a slideshow of some of the work they have been doing in the area with groups of young people and adults. BB Queen’s badge

Congratulations to three of our BB boys, Ross Finlayson, Ross McPake and Craig St John, who were presented with their Queen’s award on Wednesday 2nd June. It is the highest award in the Boys’ Brigade. Congratulations to the three boys and thank you to all of our officers who give so much of their time to encourage our boys in so many ways.

Next weekend 11-13 June some of them will be climbing Snowdon in Wales.

Sing n sizzle

Sunday 6th June – outside Cambusnethan Old Church from 3pm – come and sing your favourite hymns with us – bring along your drums and tambourines – games for young people – hot dogs and burgers for £1- tea, coffee and juice available too. Organised by the local churches mission committee.

Church of Scotland General Assembly

Today the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland begins at 10am, and proceedings will continue until Wednesday 26th. The moderator designate, Rev John Cairns Christie, will take over duties from the current moderator (Rev William Hewitt).

More details about what happens at the General Assembly are available here

On the Church of Scotland site, there is an opportunity to ‘go live’ and follow proceedings via webcasts and it is anticipated that updates will be available via twitter (generalassembly #ga2010).

For those interested in following what is happening today, the Church of Scotland has  made available the daily papers and notices of motions (available as pdf files) together with a detailed agenda for the day.

Daily prayer resources

Sacred Space is a helpful online resource offering material for daily prayer. As the website puts it,

“We invite you to make a ‘Sacred Space’ in your day, and  spend ten minutes, praying here and now, as you sit at your computer, with the help of on-screen guidance and scripture chosen specially every day.”

It’s straightforward to use, involving the selection of a prayer which you can click through in your own time and reflect upon as you choose.

The Church of Scotland also has a dedicated ‘daily prayer’ section on its website, offering the current day’s bible reading, reflection, prayer and blessing from the Church’s ‘Pray Now’ publication. (After following the link above, go to ‘click here for today’s prayer’).
